Samsung Galaxy A16 gets an upgraded MediaTek chip with 5G

Samsung appears to be working on a new entry-level phone to succeed the Galaxy A15. The Galaxy A16 will bring an upgraded MediaTek Dimensity chip with 5G connectivity. The company will also probably bring a 4G LTE version of the phone later this year, as the phone was spotted recently.

Galaxy A16 has the MediaTek Dimensity 6300+ chip

A new Samsung smartphone with model number SM-A166P has been found in Geekbench’s database. Going by its model number, the phone will most likely be launched as the Galaxy A16 5G. The device uses a MediaTek chipset with an octa-core CPU that has two cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six cores running at 2GHz. It also features the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.

Looking at the specifications, this chip is most likely the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6300, which has two Cortex-A76 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz, six Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. It is paired with 6GB LPDDR4x RAM. The phone runs Android 14 out of the box.

It has already been revealed that the Galaxy A16 has a triple-camera setup featuring a 50MP primary camera, a 5MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. On the front, it appears to have a 13MP selfie camera. The phone will likely top out at 1080p video recording.

The Galaxy A16 5G is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and most likely features 25W fast wired charging. Other features could include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, dual-SIM card slot, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone could be announced later this year.
